BEST EVER APPLE PUDDING

THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE NOSTALIC RECIPES THAT I GREW UP WITH AND IS ALWAYS SO GOOD IN THE FALL.

1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/4 CUP BUTTER
1 EGG
2 CUPS UNPEELED AND SHREDDED APPLES
1 CUP FLOUR
1 TSP. SODA
1 TSP. CINNAMON
1/2 TSP. NUTMEG
1/4 TSP. SALT
1/2 C. CHOPPED NUTS (OPTIONAL)
GRADUALLY ADD SUGAR TO BUTTER, CREAMING WELL. ADD EGG AND BEAT HARD.
ADD APPLES TO CREAMED MIXTURE. STIR IN SIFTED INGREDIENTS, ADD NUTS. BAKE IN GREASED 8X8 SQUARED PAN AT 350 DEG. FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. CUT INTO SQUARES. SERVE HOT WITH BEST EVER APPLE PUDDING SAUCE OR WHIPPED CREAM.
SERVES 8-9

BEST EVER PUDDING SAUCE
