African Brownies

My childhood best friend had a sister that went on a mission to south Africa. Her sister brought back this amazing recipe for brownies. We couldn't think of any other better name than African brownies! This is a great recipe for those Sunday afternoons when you want a treat, and don't have many ingredients on hand.

African Brownies:

Bring to boil:
1 C. butter
4 Tbs cocoa
1 C. water

Add:
5 Tbs milk
1/2 C. butter milk (if you don't have this add 1/2 Tbs lemon juice to 1/2 C milk, and let sit for 5 min- I know there is no such thing as 1/2 Tbs, so just guess!)
1 tsp vanilla

Slowly add to boiling mixture:
2 C. sugar
2 C. flour
1 tsp baking soda

Make sure all the lumps of flour are dissolved. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Bake at 375 for 20 min, or until knife comes out clean.

Icing:
1/2 C. butter
4 Tbs cocoa
5 Tbs milk
3 C. powdered sugar

Ice the brownies when hot if you like an ooey gooey treat. Ice them when they are cold if you like a cleaner treat!

Enjoy!
Michelle
